VEN GOKE AGARA BECOMES THE DEAN OF AVMCC, IKEJA

The agitation of the people over who succeeded the Rt Revd Abel Ajibodu (Bishop of Ile-Oluji) the former Dean of Archbishop Vining Memorial Church Cathedral (AVMCC), Ikeja was calmed as the Bishop of the Diocese of Lagos West (Anglican Communion), the Rt Revd James Olusola Odedeji announced the Venarable Adegoke Oludare Agara as the new Dean of AVMCC during the 17th Anniversary thanksgiving service of the Diocese on Tuesday November 22, 2016.

According to Bishop Odedeji, Venerable Agara is well accepted in the entire Diocese by both the clergy and laity. He is known for his strong spirituality. He is a prolific preacher and a child of God to the core. The Diocesan Bishop said he had tested him recently on various occasion even with money in differs currencies and he had found him to be faithful, trustworthy and reliable. He is serving in AVMCC as Cathedral Priest until his appointment as Dean.

Venerable Adegoke Oludare Agara was born on August 8, 1968 in Amusigbo Quarters of Ido-Ani, Ondo State in Western Nigeria. He had his secondary school education at Ajibode Grammar School, Ibadan between 1980 and 1985. He also had National Certificate of Education (NCE) in 1992 from Federal College of Education, Osiele, Abeokuta, Ogun State. He later proceeded to University of Lagos, Akoka, Lagos where he bagged Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) and Master of Education (M.Ed.). Venerable Agara spent most of his early life in Ibadan.

According to the new Dean on his appointment, ‘It was like a dream and as a matter of fact, my wife and I are just trying to wake to the reality of the appointment’. Venerable Agara was admitted into Immanuel College of Theology, Ibadan to begin his ministerial assignment in 1995. He was deaconed in 1997 and priested in 1998. He had been privilege to be posted thrice to AVMCC, Ikeja. He was instrumental in some churches in the Diocese to attain status of Archdeaconry Headquarters like St Peter’s Anglican Church Abule-Egba and Bishop Ajayi Crowther Memorial Anglican Church, Gowon Estate. He also served as Principal of Anglican Comprehensive College, Ipaja, Lagos where he left indelible footprint in the life of the students, staff and infrastructural development.
