It was shocking news to the Bishop-Elect of Ile-Oluji Diocese, the Venerable Abel Olu Ajibodu while on bed at around 1:30am of Thursday June 2, 2016 when he received a telephone call and he was addressed as My Lord by the caller. According to the source, he tried to correct the caller that it was not Bishop but the Dean of the Cathedral of Diocese of Lagos West. Then later another call came in congratulating him of his election as the Bishop of Ile-Oluji Diocese.
The news spread like wild fire in the Diocese of Lagos West. This is not but connected to the fact that the Bishop-Elect is a calibre of Priest to be reckoned among the senior clergy of the Diocese. The joy expressed by the parishioners around Diocese showed that people had been looking forward to seeing him becoming a Bishop in the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion). Prior to his election, the Venerable Ajibodu is the incumbent Dean of Archbishop Vining Memorial Church Cathedral, GRA, Ikeja, Lagos. We rejoice with him and pray the Almighty God to bless his episcopacy in Ile-Oluji.
The Bishop-Elect, the Venerable Abel Olu Ajibodu was born about 48 years ago. He hails from Ijako-Orile of Yewa land (Egbado) of Ogun State. He had his secondary school education at Ijako-Orile Community High School, Ijako-Orile via Abeokuta (South West of Nigeria) after which he proceeded to Vining College of Theology, Akure (South West of Nigeria) in 1987 to obtain Diploma in Theology which qualified him to be ordained into priesthood. He is also a graduate of the prestigious University of Ibadan, Nigeria where he had his first degree and Masters of Art (MA) in Christian Religious.
Venerable Ajibodu was deaconed in 1990 and priested in 1991. He started his ministerial work at Christ Church, Bariga and he was later posted to pioneer St Paul’s Anglican Church, Ojodu-Abiodun, Ojodu, Lagos which today is an Archdeaconry headquarters. He worked as the Vicar of Our Saviour’s Anglican Church, Oto-Awori and Christ Church, Amuwo-Odofin, Lagos and he later became the pioneering Archdeacon of Satellite Archdeaconry which grew tremendously under his leadership. He was later transferred to St Andrew’s Anglican Church, Ipaja as Vicar and Archdeacon. He is at Church of Pentecost, Festac as Vicar and Archdeacon until his appointment as the Dean of the Cathedral.
The Bishop-Elect will be consecrated on Sunday July 24, 2016 at Archbishop Vining Memorial Church Cathedral, GRA Ikeja, Lagos at 10am prompt by the Primate of All Nigeria of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), the Most Revd Nicholas Okoh.
