The routine of observing the Electoral processes in Lagos State by the Diocese of Lagos West necessitated the courtesy visit of the Lord Bishop of Lagos West, the Rt Revd Dr. James Olusola Odedeji to the INEC Commissioner of Lagos State, Mr. Orebiyi in his office in Yaba, Lagos. Mr. Orebiyi who had just resumed the office a week ago was very pleased with the visit and warmly received the Bishop and his entourage. The visit was held on Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at 4pm.
‘We have not taken money from any political party but we are doing what we are doing as our civil responsibility to Nigerians’, Bishop Odedeji stated while chatting with the INEC Commissioner. He further highlighted the reasons for his visit to the INEC office. According to him, firstly, he wanted to be able to sensitize the members of Diocese to exercise their rights in voting for candidates of their choice. Secondly to inform the INEC Commissioner of the coming Gubernatorial debate for all the Lagos State Governorship aspirants in order to create a platform for the citizens to hear the manifestos of the candidates. This would serve as a forum to encourage the candidates to run the election exercises in the fear of God.
The Diocesan also alerted the INEC Commissioner of the involvement of the Diocese in observing election.
The meeting ended with prayers for the success of the elections and protection for the INEC Commissioner as he discharged his duty in Lagos State.
