DIOCESE OF LAGOS WEST CELEBRATES 2023 JESUS FESTIVAL IN GRAND STYLE

It was a memorable celebration of the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ as all roads led to the Diocesan Field in GRA Ikeja on Saturday 8th of April 2023 by all the parishioners of the Diocese of Lagos West from all the Archdeaconries to assemble for the 2023 Jesus Festival. The parishioners who came out in their numbers dressed in different Ankara attires and tops, according to their Archdeaconries and they were welcome with light gospel songs.

 

 

The event which commenced at about 9am with an opening prayer by the Dean of the Cathedral, The Venerable Ebenezer Adewole had the Diocesan the Rt. Revd. Dr. James Olusola Odedeji, and his wife, Dr. Mrs. Lydia Olukemi Odedeji in attendance.

 

 

Speaking on the theme of the Diocese God Will Fight For You, the Guest Minister, The Revd. Akintunde Oke affirmed that God is a fighter and winner of battles. God is a fighter, and whenever he wants to fight He does not come physically, but sends His messenger. He cited cases of some warriors in the Bible and he said Jesus defeated devil our arch enemy and  He gave us victory over death and dangers. According to him, Jesus declared war against principalities and powers and He decrees healing, deliverance, blessings, overflowing joy, breakthroughs and victory.

 

 

He listed the following criteria that must be in place for God to fight for someone. Firstly you must be a child of God, and secondly you must have consistent relationship with God.

 

 

Earlier in his charge to the congregation, the Diocesan Bishop, the Rt. Revd Dr James Odedeji, remarked that the gathering was to celebrate victory, to open doors for Jesus who died for the sins of mankind. He quoted from 1 Corinthians 5 verse 57. He admonished everyone to offer thanksgiving to God for giving us victory through the Lord Jesus and hope in place of hopelessness and life in place of worthlessness.

 

 

High point of the event was the March Past competition by the Archdeaconries, Drama Sketches and Trooping of the Colours Brigade and musical entertainment.

 

 

The event, put together by the Directorate of Evangelism led by Ven. Gbenga Fagbemi is an annual event to commemorate the Easter celebrations. It had in attendance about ten thousand participants across Diocese, the Diocesan Chancellor, Justice Babasola Opeoluwa Ogunade (Rtd), Chief S B Bamkole, Otunba Oyeleke (both bishops appointees) Princess Adenike Adegoke, General Manager, Bond FM, Lagos, amongst other dignitaries.
