The members of the Archbishop Vining Memorial Church Cathedral GRA, Ikeja gave a warm welcome to the Venerable and Mrs Abel Oluyemi Ajibodu as they resumed officially as the Dean of the great Cathedral of the Diocese of Lagos West. The appointment of the Ven Abel Ajibodu was announced officially during the 14th anniversary celebration of the Diocese by the Lord Bishop, the Rt Revd James Olusola Odedeji. Despite it was a working hour sizable members of the congregation were in attendance to receive their new Dean.
“I desire to be as Timothy to Paul to my Lord Bishop, the Rt Revd Olusola Odedeji”, said by the Ven Abel Ajibodu in his address to the members. He acknowledged it would be a great challenge coming to work in a Cathedral of international standard like AVMCC. He requested for prayers from the entire congregation and the Diocese at large. He also said that the memory of the warm welcome given to them would linger on.
The Venerable Abel Olu Ajibodu was born about 48 years ago. He hails from Ijako-Orile of Yewa land (Egbado) of Ogun State. He had his secondary school education at Ijako-Orile Community High School, Ijako-Orile via Abeokuta (South West of Nigeria) after which he proceeded to Vining College of Theology, Akure (South West of Nigeria) in 1987 to obtain Diploma in Theology which qualified him to be ordained into priesthood. He is also a graduate of the prestigious University of Ibadan, Nigeria where he had his first degree and Masters of Art (MA) in Christian Religious.
Venerable Ajibodu was deaconed in 1990 and priested in 1991. He started his ministerial work at Christ Church, Bariga and he was later posted to pioneer St Paul’s Anglican Church, Ojodu-Abiodun, Ojodu, Lagos which today is an Archdeaconry headquarters. He worked as the Vicar of Our Saviour’s Anglican Church, Oto-Awori and Christ Church, Amuwo-Odofin, Lagos and he later became the pioneering Archdeacon of Satellite Archdeaconry which grew tremendously under his leadership. He was later transferred to St Andrew’s Anglican Church, Ipaja as Vicar and Archdeacon. He is at Church of Pentecost, Festac as Vicar and Archdeacon until his appointment as the Dean.
Venerable Ajibodu is married to Mrs Esther Oluwatoyin Ajibodu who is also a gentle and humble woman and the marriage is blessed with godly children.
Venerable Ajibodu will be installed on Sunday February 2 2014 by the Lord Bishop of the Diocese of Lagos West, the Rt Revd Olusola James Odedeji. We wish him a fruitful and fulfilling ministry in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.
